Meteor Crater & La Posada
Now a part of our Thursday Getaway Series,
Please join us on this great day-trip to the world’s largest known meteor impact site as we visit Arizona’s Meteor Crater. Walk along the rim, or view from indoors, this impact crater that spans nearly one mile and is 2.4 miles in circumference. At 550 feet deep, this was once a site for the training of the Apollo Astronauts. You will enjoy the discovery center that includes a wide screen theater, rock shop, unique gift shop, and plenty of interpretive displays, right on the rim of the crater.
Following our time at the crater, we will travel to Winslow and the beautiful La Posada Resort where we will enjoy lunch in the Turquoise Room, named for the private dining car on the 1936 Super Chief Train. This train was known as the “Train of the Stars” for the many celebrities that it served. After lunch, we will enjoy a guided tour that will take us back in time to when the Harvey Girls, dressed in their white ruffled aprons, served the railroad passengers in this historic “Harvey House.”
You won’t want to miss this beautiful and historic day in Northern Arizona!
