LOWELL OBSERVATORY – A Private Tour

Event Details

  • Date:

The Lowell Observatory was established in 1894, and is one of the oldest astronomical observatories in the United States; it was first designated a National Historical Landmark in 1965.  The observatory is home to several telescopes including the Pluto Discovery Telescope, used by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930 to discover the small planet for which it is named.

We will be enjoying the Dark Sky’s Private Stargazing Tour, a 90-minute guided evening tour using the new 24-inch (0.6 meter) Dyer Telescope.  We will also enjoy a laser-guided constellation tour in the adjoining McAllister Observing Plaza.  Other things to explore while we are there are the Giovale Open Deck Observatory, the Historic Clark Refractor, the Pluto Discovery Astrograph, and the Zeiss Blink Comparator.

We will start our star-gazing adventure by enjoying a wonderful dinner at Black Bart’s Steakhouse; from there we will then head over to the Lowell Observatory for the evening.
