Dickens' A Christmas Carol at Hale Theatre
Master’s Touch Tours has established a tradition of offering “A Christmas Carol” by English author Charles Dickens each year. First published in December, 1843, in early Victorian-era Britain, it came during a period when there was a strong nostalgia for old Christmas traditions together with the introduction of new customs, such as Christmas trees and greeting cards. Dickens' story was one of the greatest influences in rejuvenating the old Christmas traditions of England, bringing to the audience images of light, joy, warmth, and life, it also brings strong and unforgettable images of darkness, despair, coldness, sadness, and death. Scrooge himself is the embodiment of winter, and, just as winter is followed by spring and the renewal of life, so too is Scrooge's cold, pinched heart restored to the innocent goodwill he had known in his childhood and youth. Join us as we travel to Hale’s beautiful theater-in-the-round for a masterful rendition of this famous Dickens classic. Every inch of the theater is used to its optimum efficiency, as Scrooge comes face to face with his past and seizes the opportunity to correct his future. God bless us, everyone!
