Silverton, CO, located between Durango and Ouray, occupies some of the most spectacular landscapes in Colorado. Even though the town is one of the more secluded in the San Juan Mountains, the downtown area is full of shops , boutiques, and restaurants.
We will also visit the Honeyville factory/store in Durango. You will see a live glass beehive and watch the product being bottle in their country kitchen. You will have an opportunity to taste samples of honeys, jams, jellies and sauces.
The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad reached Durango in August 1881. Within one year of the railroad’s arrival, Durango had 134 businesses which included doctors, saloons, and many newspapers. One of its first newspapers, The Durango Record, was run by Caroline Romney, who championed Durango as “The New Wonder of the Southwest” and rallied for women’s right to vote. The town is full of amazing nature, art, music and culture. Join us to explore the beauty of Durango and The San Juan National Forest.
