Through his work as an architect, urban designer, artist, craftsman, and philosopher, Paolo Soleri explored the countless possibilities of human aspiration. We will enjoy a guided tour of Cosanti, his famous windchime factory, where we will observe a “pouring” of liquified scrape bronze into molds to manufacture the chimes. Then it is on to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art to tour their Paolo Soleri exhibit. This ground-breaking exhibition represents the largest collection of original drawings, fragile sketchbooks, architectural models, sculptures, prints, and photographs presented in North America since 1971. We will also enjoy a guided tour of the Soleri Bridge and Plaza at the Scottsdale Waterfront. One outstanding Soleri endeavor is Arcosanti, an urban laboratory, constructed in Cordes Junction. It attempts to test and demonstrate an alternative human habitat which is greatly needed in this increasingly perplexing world. This project also exemplifies his steadfast devotion to creating an experiential space to "prototype" an environment in harmony with man. Wrapping up this tour, we will make a stop at Arcosanti.
